Ever since becoming a homeowner, I’ve realized I don’t need to live in a house. I don’t need a big yard or three bathrooms or a mortgage payment. I’d be very happy if I never had to worry about flooded basements or leaky roofs or broken refrigerators that I have to fix on my own dime. I never thought I was someone with commitment issues, but owning a house brings out the commitment-phobe in me. 

There were things about apartment living that weren’t my favorite — loud neighbors, lack of storage space, dealing with grocery bags when the elevator was broken — but what I’ve discovered is I don’t really care about my living space as long as I can stay warm, sleep in a cozy bed, take a hot shower in the morning and watch what I want on TV. Also, I’m not really domestic beyond liking to cook sometimes, so the less cleaning I have to do, the better I feel.

I love Brian, and I know he really wanted to buy a house, but if it was ever just me on my own again? Small apartment living all the way.
